If you are thinking about adopting a dog soon or have recently adopted one into your family, you will know that training dogs can be a lot of work. Even if your dog or puppy doesn’t have any specific behavioral issues, there are some definite signs that they could benefit from a professional trainer.

As an aspiring nurse, Lauren Swist offers obedience and therapy dog training services while she pursues her nursing degree. She is currently training her own dog to be a therapy dog so they can visit nursing homes, hospitals, and senior centers to offer comfort and companionship. Today she shares the 8 signs that you should hire a professional dog trainer.

  1. Your dog is growling excessively.
  2. They nip or bite people.
  3. If you have to leave them alone during the day, taking them to a training session can provide them with both physical and mental stimulation.
  4. You are struggling to get them to learn commands.
  5. They always run for the door when you or someone else comes over, or they frequently get out of the house.
  6. They jump on people and won’t stop when you tell them to.
  7. They aggressively guard objects.
  8. They have issues going on walks and keep pulling on the leash.
