We all get bored from time to time, and the same is true for your dog! In order to keep your pet happy and healthy, it is important to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. If dogs get bored, they will resort to doing anything that keeps them entertained, including barking excessively, chewing on furniture, and getting up to general mischief.

As a lover of all animals and especially dogs, Lauren Swist offers obedience and therapy dog training services while pursuing her nursing degree. Today she shares 4 ways to keep your dog entertained.

  1. Even if you are passed the initial puppy training phase, it is a good idea to spend ten minutes every day either going over previous commands or learning some new ones!
  2. Puzzle toys with treats inside are a great way to engage your dog’s brain. These are especially great if your dog tends to eat too quickly. Give them the feeling that they are hunting for something. You can also hide treats around your home for them to find.
  3. Don’t give your dogs all their toys at once. Keep some put away, and keep a few out for them to use. Switch them out every once in a while to give them something new to do.
  4. Play games with them such as tug of war, or even hide and seek. Tell them to sit, go hide somewhere, and call them. Give them lots of praise when they find you.
